  • Survey of NICU systems, resources, and management of very preterm infants
    • Survey topics: Baseline data (NICU types, number of admissions, etc.), Resuscitation (device, personnel, program, etc.), Respiratory management (ventilation, CPAP, medications, etc.), Management critically ill infants and extremely preterm infants, Neurological injuries, Circulation and fluid management, Feeding practices and probiotics usages, Retinopathy of prematurity, Infection prevention and management, Nursing care, Resources and facility (NICU device, medications, personnel, etc.), Kangaroo mother care, Family visits, Developmental care, Follow-up.

 

  • Retrospective cohort study of very preterm infants (from 2015 to 2023)
    • Inclusion criteria: Very preterm or very low birth weight infants in Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Thailand
    • Data variables: Maternal and perinatal characteristics (maternal hypertension, antenatal steroids, delivery modes, outborn, etc.), major outcomes (death, intraventricular hemorrhage, necrotizing enterocolitis, retinopathy of prematurity, chronic lung disease, late onset sepsis, etc.), interventions (intubation, mechanical ventilation, CPAP, inhaled NO, surfactant, PDA treatment, etc.).

 

  • Prospective patient registry of very preterm infants (since 2024)
    • New newborn registries have been developed in Philippines and Indonesia
    • Inclusion criteria: Very preterm or very low birth weight infants
    • Data variables: the same as in the retrospective cohort study described above.

 

  • Quality improvement (QI) projects to improve outcome of preterm infants in Asia
    • QI to improve mortality and morbidity of very preterm infants
    • QI for infection prevention
    • QI for preventing admission hypothermia
